Flu Prevention Tips

  • Post category:Health

The flu is spread around mainly during the fall and winter months. To help minimize your risk of catching it, follow these preventative tips:

Get Vaccinated

Influenza is the only respiratory virus preventable by vaccination. If you get a flu shot using a participating provider, you are covered 100% through your Independence Administrators coverage. If you chose to go out-of-network, such as CVS or Walgreen’s, the Fund Office will reimburse you up to $25.

Wash Your Hands

Get rid of viruses and bacteria by regularly washing your hands with soap and water.

Don’t Touch Your Face

The flu virus can enter the nose, eyes, and mouth. So, try to avoid touching your face.

Eat Right

Eating healthy, balanced meals can strengthen your immune system. Mushrooms, garlic and kiwi are some examples of foods that can help prevent you from getting the flu.

Keep a Clean House

Use disinfectants to clean your home. Focus on common areas, particularly the kitchen and bathroom.

Avoid Contact with Sick People

The flu is very contagious, so avoid contact with those who may be infected.
